Here I had my first high-altitude experiences, here I learned to move, to wait, to observe, but above all, to fail. The impact with these giants of rock was immediate and profound. Lightboomb was born in this context and is one of the first images I created dedicated to the mountain landscape, when my gaze was still guided more by instinct than by experience.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring a trek towards the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, on a day dominated by a dense, gray sky, the light seemed to have no intention of kissing the landscape. Then, suddenly, a crack in the clouds allowed an intense and concentrated beam to pass through. Turning around, I witnessed an unexpected scene: the Cadini di Misurina were lighting up with a sharp and dramatic light, in stark contrast to the surrounding darkness.\u003cbr\u003eIt was a brief but decisive moment. In that instant, I understood that those places were not just a backdrop, but a necessity. A landscape capable of nourishing something deeper than just the gaze. After creating Lightboomb, my goal was not to chase other images, but simply to experience the Tre Cime for the first time away from the chaos of summer tourism. To stay, walk, observe. Yet, as often happens, it was the atmosphere itself that suggested continuing. The light had been a protagonist throughout the day, even in its most fleeting moments, and I felt it had not yet said everything.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI pushed slightly above the Locatelli Refuge as the sun set, invisible behind a compact cloud cover. There was no sunset to observe, but an end of the day to listen to. It was there that I found that small natural ramp, a line of terrain that guided the gaze towards an isolated block of rock, almost a golem, distinctly detached from Monte Paterno behind it. To the right, the Tre Cime remained recognizable and still; in the center, a last gap of light persisted between the clouds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat light no longer illuminated, but hinted. It was the residue of what had characterized the entire day: brief appearances, interruptions, fragments. Next to it, Pizzo delle Saette, slightly lower, draws a rougher and more dynamic line, almost a ridge shaped by the wind. Together they create a continuous dialogue between solidity and movement, between breadth and detail.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter the Covid period, in June 2020, this was my second excursion to the Apuan Alps. I consider them my home mountains, those that I ignored for a long time but quickly realized I truly loved. Here, I understood that you don't need to go far to feel small. From Corchia, the view stretches along the Apuan ridges to the sea, and that sudden sense of vastness gently and firmly brings you back to a more essential scale.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGorge was born precisely from this vantage point. The open and green valley in the foreground becomes a natural threshold that guides the gaze towards the Pania Group and Pizzo delle Saette, using the slopes of Corchia as a silent frame. At sunset, the typical warm, oblique light of the Apuan Alps illuminates the walls and allows shadows to create depth. I was looking for the first blossoms in the areas between Monte Fiocca and Monte Sumbra, intending to spend the night at altitude. My backpack was heavy, full of essentials, and I left it in the Passo Sella area, from where I wanted to reach certain spots to photograph the sunrise. But as fatigue began to set in, clouds started to gather around me, eventually engulfing the entire landscape. Visibility dropped to zero, and time seemed to slip away along with the possibilities.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDespite everything, I kept moving, trying to reach the shooting spot anyway, even though there were only a few minutes left until sunset. When the wind started to blow decisively, I realized something was changing. About twenty minutes before sunset, the sky suddenly opened up: the clouds dropped, and the light began to paint everything red. The rocky walls, the sea of clouds, the sky itself seemed to burn with a deep and unreal hue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI had just taken a photograph from Passo Fiocca towards Monte Sumbra, when, looking further, as often happens to me, I noticed the profile of Pizzo delle Saette, separated from Naso dell’Omo Morto by a sea of incandescent clouds. After an early December snowfall, with the ski lifts still closed and virtually no human presence at high altitudes. The silence was not empty, but dense, heavy. The absence of tracks made every shape clearer, every variation of light more significant. The bad weather, instead of detracting, added depth, letting the clouds and shadows build the scene.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt sunset, the light never fully arrived. It remained suspended, filtered, concentrated on certain portions of rock, while the rest quickly slid into gray. Croda da Lago did not offer itself as a panorama, but as a presence: a mass of stone and snow that emerged and receded depending on the passage of the clouds.
