Behind the work

The climb towards Punta Marinelli began with the idea of reaching a precise point, a peak from which to observe Valmalenco, the Fellaria glacier, and the Bernina group. The preceding days had been an exercise in patience: thunderstorms, rain, and hail had forced us to adapt, to stop, to abandon several of our objectives. Only on the third day, with heavy backpacks and an already settled fatigue, were we able to move towards our goal.
At the base of the glacier, we set up camp, lightened our gear, and tackled the last stretch. At the summit, at 3182 meters, the light filtered through the clouds had transformed everything into something fragile and suspended. It was there that my image "Hope" was born.

But time did not stand still.

A few minutes later, remaining in the same spot, the landscape began to change. The light lost its initial softness and started to recede, revealing sharper contrasts. The mountains before us no longer formed a single body but were arranged in successive layers, separated by deep shadows and an increasingly marked distance. A minor ridge, illuminated for an instant, detached itself from the rest, while everything beyond slowly slipped into blue.

My gaze ran along an invisible line that coincides with the border between Italy and Switzerland. The most distant peaks, now in Swiss territory, appeared reduced to essential silhouettes, while the one struck by the light seemed suspended on a threshold: too far to belong to the foreground, too present to dissolve into the background. It didn't matter to know its name. At that moment, geography gave way to perception.

The scene progressively simplified. Depth compressed, detail disappeared, and the landscape was reduced to two fundamental dimensions: light and shadow, near and far. After the emotional openness of Hope, this second moment brought with it a different, more silent and conscious feeling.
