Behind the work

Leaf was taken in a fluvial area near Vík í Mýrdal, where a water-carved gully connects to the ocean, cutting through dark volcanic surfaces. It is a transitional environment, shaped by rapid and intermittent flows, where land is continuously eroded, transported, and redeposited.

The image was captured with a drone, maintaining an altitude that compressed the depth and transformed the landscape into a surface readable by its shapes. It is in this condition that a clear, isolated silhouette emerges: a section of land that, by its contours and proportions, naturally recalls the shape of a leaf. It is not a sought-after visual construction, but a morphological coincidence generated by the passage of water and the accumulation of sediments.

At the center of this shape, almost imperceptible, an tree trunk can be distinguished. Carried by the river, it appears as a minimal but decisive detail: an organic element that strengthens the association with the plant world and introduces an unexpected scale. The leaf is no longer just a formal suggestion but becomes a convergence point between mineral matter and biological trace.

Leaf arises from this silent superposition. An image where the landscape, observed from above, stops telling itself as territory and adopts the language of analogies. Earth, water, and a fragment of wood align for an instant, creating a recognizable and fragile shape, destined to disappear with the next change in flow.
