Behind the work
The Cadini di Misurina form one of the wildest and most rugged groups in the Eastern Dolomites, an intricate labyrinth of towers, passes, and gullies that rise abruptly above the Misurina plateau. Unlike the more famous and orderly shapes of the Dolomites, the Cadini appear chaotic and vertical, almost restless, as if the rock had been pushed upwards without ever finding a definitive balance. It is a harsh, deeply Dolomitic landscape, where light plays an essential role in revealing, or hiding, its forms.
It was precisely in the Dolomites that I truly approached the mountains. Here I had my first high-altitude experiences, here I learned to move, to wait, to observe, but above all, to fail. The impact with these giants of rock was immediate and profound. Lightboomb was born in this context and is one of the first images I created dedicated to the mountain landscape, when my gaze was still guided more by instinct than by experience.
During a trek towards the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, on a day dominated by a dense, gray sky, the light seemed to have no intention of kissing the landscape. Then, suddenly, a crack in the clouds allowed an intense and concentrated beam to pass through. Turning around, I witnessed an unexpected scene: the Cadini di Misurina were lighting up with a sharp and dramatic light, in stark contrast to the surrounding darkness.
It was a brief but decisive moment. In that instant, I understood that those places were not just a backdrop, but a necessity. A landscape capable of nourishing something deeper than just the gaze. It was there that, unknowingly, my journey truly began.
