Behind the work
There are places and moments where nature does not manifest as order, but as overload. The wind pushes without apparent direction, the rain blurs contours, the light constantly changes shape, and the landscape seems to reject any attempt at control. In these conditions, chaos is not just visual; it's physical and mental. In photography, as in life, it is precisely then that it becomes necessary to stop, reduce the noise, and ask oneself if, within that confusion, a possibility of balance still exists.
My trip to Iceland in November 2022 began under this sign. Fever, flu-like symptoms, and hostile weather accompanied much of the journey, making each day more arduous than expected. Storms followed one another relentlessly, often preventing any real planning. Yet, I continued to move, to explore, to wait. Not out of obstinacy, but because in Iceland, waiting is an integral part of the experience: you stay still, you observe, you accept not being in control.
In the area just beyond Vestrahorn, on a day dominated by incessant wind and rain, something began to change. Not a clear improvement, but a series of signals: flashes of reflected light, fleeting openings, an atmosphere oscillating between violence and suspension. Then, for a few moments, the rain stopped falling. The mountains revealed themselves, dark and sharp, emerging from the background like primary forms. In the foreground, a perfect triangle. Behind it, an ethereal light contrasting with the gray, almost neutral sky. Birds in flight completed the scene, introducing subtle movement within a composition already charged with tension.
In that moment, all the chaos recomposed itself. Not because it had disappeared, but because it had found a form. Symphony of Chaos stems from this instant: an oasis of clarity within a confused day, within an equally unstable period. It is not an image of victory over chaos, but of its temporary harmonization. A visual reminder that even in the most disordered conditions, a moment of meaning can exist, if one is ready to recognize it.
