Behind the work
Iceland is a land that expands your gaze. Its spaces are not merely vast; they are continuous, lacking true boundaries, built on a scale that renders any human reference secondary. Valleys open up without warning, reliefs follow one another like solidified waves, and rivers trace paths that seem to have neither beginning nor end. Here, the landscape engulfs you, imposing a perception of vastness that is not only geographical but mental.
My journey was marked by extreme alternation: days of full, almost summer-like sun, followed by persistent rains and storms that often made even imagining a photograph difficult. On a day dominated by clouds, but finally free of rain, I decided to move inland, reaching the Háifoss waterfall. In front of one of the island's most imposing waterfalls, nestled in a deep and dramatic canyon, it would be natural to stop there, capture the power of the water, and consider the search complete.
Yet, my gaze was immediately drawn elsewhere. Beyond the canyon, much further away, a ray of light cut across the valley, following the course of the river that collects the waters of Háifoss. That barren, seemingly empty expanse was transformed under that luminous blade into something completely different: a living territory, traversed by fluid lines, capable of conveying a sense of absolute openness. The waterfall, though immense, became context; the valley, suddenly, became meaning.
Limitless arises from this shift in attention. From the moment the real objective ceases to coincide with what is most obvious. In Iceland, it often happens that you have to abandon your initial idea to realize what is truly happening. Sometimes the true subject is not what dominates the scene, but what manifests more silently, further away, asking only to be recognized.
