Behind the work
In northern Norway, there are landscapes that don't seek attention. Far from the beaten path, they stretch out in a form of vast, essential tranquility, where every element seems to occupy exactly the space it's meant to. Here, the territory doesn't impose itself but allows itself to be traversed. Silence is not an absence; it is a structure.
In autumn, these lands enter a state of suspension. I reached this point by traversing large rock formations typical of the area, vast and continuous surfaces that follow one another without interruption, like natural terraces sculpted by time. Walking on them evokes a dual sensation: on the one hand, the imposing nature of the material, and on the other, a profound, almost reassuring calm. The rock, bare and dark, retains the cold and the memory of the seasons, smooth in some parts, rougher in others, but always stable underfoot. Only further on does the terrain change incline and vegetation reappear, low and resilient, marking the transition to a more sheltered place, where the space opens up and invites one to pause.
The scene offers no obvious center. The bare trees move irregularly, the ground is colored in muted and deep tones, and the mountain in the background emerges without theatrics. Everything contributes to creating a feeling of silent balance, where nothing needs to be explained. The light is diffused, subdued, without excess.
Northern Stillness arises from this condition of profound calm. It doesn't narrate an event but a state of mind. It is the image of a place that doesn't accelerate but invites one to slow down their gaze. In this landscape, photography becomes an act of listening: a way to recognize the discreet strength of the North, capable of speaking without ever raising its voice.
