Behind the work
Iceland is a land in continuous transformation, suspended between what has just been born and what is slowly disappearing. Its surface is the direct result of the meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, volcanic activity, and the incessant action of ice. Here, young craters, still sharp and distinct, coexist with much older structures, softened by time, wind, and water. Some reliefs tell of relatively recent eruptions, others are what remains of distant events, reshaped to become soft, almost organic forms. There is no clear line between past and present: every element is part of a constantly renewing cycle.
Observed from above, this geography loses its usual scale and becomes a language. Craters are no longer mountains, but signs; lava flows are no longer events, but textures; the ground appears like a skin traversed by scars, veins, and stratifications. The chromatic differences – the black of the lava, the oxidized red, the yellow of mineral deposits, the green slowly reclaiming space – tell of different phases of the same vital process. Every form is the result of a previous destruction and, at the same time, the starting point for something new.
Sign of Rebirth arises from this interpretation. Not as a celebration of volcanic power, but as a reflection on the Earth's ability to transform violence into structure, chaos into balance. These landscapes do not speak of explosion, but of settling; not of an end, but of continuity. Life, here, does not erupt: it emerges slowly, adapting to the most hostile surfaces.
In Iceland, rebirth is not a sudden event, but a silent process. And looking at these forms from above, it becomes clear how every beginning is always linked to what preceded it, without sharp breaks, without true conclusions.
